The Colony's New Clubhouse Was Supposed to Open Last Winter. Here's What's Actually Coming This Season.

For years, the après ritual in The Colony at White Pine Canyon had a fixed address: a seasonal yurt near the base of the Quicksilver Gondola, where owners peeled off ski boots, ordered lunch, and let the kids thaw out before the next run. That yurt is gone now, cleared to make way for something more permanent. The question that actually matters to the people who live here isn't whether a new clubhouse is coming. It's whether it's here yet, and the honest answer depends on which source you trust.

Marketing copy circulating last fall pointed to the 2025-2026 ski season as the opening. The Colony Homeowners Association's own property pages tell a different story, one that pushes the real opening closer to right now.

What's replacing the yurt

Construction has been underway on a two-story private ski lounge at the former yurt site, directly adjacent to the Quicksilver Gondola, the eight-passenger lift that links the Canyons side of Park City Mountain to the rest of the resort. The building is designed to hold ski lockers, a casual restaurant, and a coffee bar for Colony owners and their guests. A second structure, planned for the site of the community's former sales office, is slated to add a pool, a bar, and additional gathering space, though that project sits further out on the timeline than the lounge.

This isn't a minor amenity swap. The yurt was seasonal and modest. What's replacing it is a year-round building meant to anchor the ski-in ski-out identity that draws people to this specific address inside Park City Mountain's boundary, where roughly a quarter of the resort's 41 chairlifts sit within Colony land.

The gap between the pitch and the paperwork

Here's where the timeline gets interesting for anyone who actually owns here. Promotional material aimed at prospective buyers described the lounge as scheduled to open for the 2025-2026 season. But the Colony HOA's own property-specific pages, the ones tied to actual homes for sale inside the gates, tell current owners something more cautious.

Source What it says about the clubhouse
Third-party marketing copy (fall 2025) Scheduled to open for the 2025-2026 ski season
Colony HOA property pages Projected to be completed in spring 2026, with hours, menu, staffing, and dues still being finalized

That's not a small discrepancy. A building can be structurally complete and still not operating, and the HOA's own language, urging owners to "stay tuned" on hours, food service, and pricing, reads like an association that hadn't locked in day-to-day operations as of the most recent updates available. If the lounge only reached completion in spring, the 2025-2026 season it was supposedly built for was mostly over before the doors could realistically open to a full operating schedule. That makes this coming winter, not last winter, the season where the clubhouse actually gets tested by real use: full staffing, a working kitchen, and owners showing up expecting the same experience the yurt used to provide.

If you're weighing whether to plan your season around a working clubhouse or around the yurt-era routine of driving down to Canyons Village, that distinction is worth knowing before the snow flies.

Why the resort's own calendar decides the answer

Any read on "this season" starts with when the mountain itself opens, because a private clubhouse serving a private community only matters once there's snow to ski home on. Park City Mountain announced in August that it's targeting November 20, 2026, as its opening day for the 2026-27 season, according to Park Record and KPCW. That's the Friday before Thanksgiving, and it's an aggressive target built on hopes for an active Super El Niño pattern this winter.

Worth remembering: last year's target date was almost identical, November 21, and a lack of snow pushed the actual opening to December 5. Vail Resorts, which owns Park City Mountain, is leaning on expanded snowmaking capacity to avoid a repeat, but the target date is explicitly conditions-permitting. For Colony owners, that means two calendars to watch this fall rather than one: the mountain's opening day, and whatever operational update the HOA eventually puts out on clubhouse hours. Neither is guaranteed to land on schedule, and the two aren't tied to each other. A clubhouse that's staffed and ready in November does you no good if the lifts aren't spinning, and lifts spinning on time won't help if the lounge is still finalizing its menu.

What's already open at the bottom of the gondola

Owners who'd rather not wait on either calendar have real options a short ride down from the Colony gate. The Quicksilver Gondola drops skiers at Miner's Camp, and from there Canyons Village has kept building out its own dining scene independent of anything happening inside the Colony gates. Recent additions and standing favorites in the Village include:

  • Dos Olas Cantina, a Mexican-inspired spot just steps from the Sunrise Gondola serving family-style plates and cantina cocktails
  • KITA, a Japanese grill-style restaurant at Pendry Park City with sushi and steakhouse-style dinner service
  • The Pool House, Pendry's rooftop lounge, open year-round for both poolside summer service and fireside winter hours
  • Edge Steakhouse at Westgate Park City, known locally for prime and Wagyu cuts alongside an award-winning wine list
  • Drafts Burger Bar, a gastropub-style spot with an extensive beer list at Westgate

None of that requires waiting on a HOA update. It's simply what's already running in the Village this year, and for a Colony household deciding where to eat after a ski day while the new lounge finishes its rollout, it's the more reliable plan for opening week.

What this actually means heading into the season

The honest version of this story isn't "the clubhouse is open" or "the clubhouse is delayed." It's that the building itself may be finished, but the operation inside it, the part that determines whether you can walk in for lunch on a random Tuesday, was still being worked out as of the most recent HOA communication. That's a normal part of standing up a private amenity from scratch. It's also exactly the kind of detail that gets smoothed over in marketing copy aimed at buyers, where "opening this season" reads better than "completed, but operational details pending."

For anyone living in the Colony this winter, the practical move is to treat the mountain's own opening day, November 20 if conditions cooperate, as the more reliable anchor point, and to check directly with the HOA for the lounge's actual operating hours before assuming it's running the way last year's marketing suggested. The Village restaurants at the bottom of the gondola aren't going anywhere in the meantime, and they've been open, staffed, and serving owners and guests all along.
